What Did We Get Rid of After Christmas?

Time for THE PURGE!!!

Christmastime came and went, and left a pile of presents in its wake. In order to make room for the new, we needed to remove some of the old. This is actually one of our biggest cleaning periods of the year in my house. We take time off of work since school is closed and the kids are home. Our families live close, so we don’t need to travel. And we’re already turning over the house to change decorations. Organizing it all naturally follows. What had to go?

  1. Toys, Toys, Toys

Thankfully, our daycare runs a used toy donation drive this time of year. We boxed up outgrown games, play sets, books and action figures, and dropped them off. Check with the schools and daycares near you to see if they can use your old toys.

  2. Christmas Decorations

I was ruthless this year and got rid of a bunch of holiday items, including stockings, ornaments, blank greeting cards and a creepy Santa figurine. Many of these things have lived in the storage boxes for years. Every winter, I look at them and then pick something else to display. It was time to say goodbye.

  3. Food

During the holidays, we ate many meals away from home. Food in the fridge was neglected, and more leftovers came in. It needed a good old-fashioned cleanup. While dealing with sticky fridge mess is never anyone’s favorite job, but we felt so much better afterwards. Plus, it made the compost pile very happy!
